Paul McCartney Paul McCartneyThe Beatles Wings, solo. The most successful rock composer of all time. McCartney first met John Lennon on July 6th 1957, who was impressed that Paul could tune a guitar. With The Beatles he scored 21 US No.1 & 17 UK No.1 singles plus McCartney has scored over 30 US & UK solo Top 40 hit singles. He has written and co-written 188 charted records, of which 91 reached the Top 10 and 33 made it to No.1 totalling 1,662 weeks on the chart.

This Day In Music – May 21st

1955 – Chuck BerryChuck Berry recorded ‘Maybellene’ at Universal Recording Studios, Chicago, Illinois. The song adapted in part from the Western swing fiddle tune ‘Ida Red’ is said to be one of the first rock and roll songs. The track became Berry’s debut single release in July of this year where it peaked at No.5 on the US chart.

1963 – The BeatlesThe Beatles recorded two BBC radio programs at the Playhouse Theatre in London. They recorded five songs for Saturday Club and six songs for Steppin’ Out.

This Day In Music – May 14

1988 – Led ZeppelinLed Zeppelin reunited for the Atlantic Records 40th anniversary party at Madison Square Garden, New York, appearing with Jason Bonham the son of John Bonham on drums. Other acts performing included Foreigner, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Genesis, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Wilson Pickett and Ben E. King.

Valentine’s Day, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. Originating as a Western Christian feast day honoring one or two early saints named Valentinus, Valentine’s Day is recognized as a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world.

Despite having little commercial success, these guys managed to stay active for five years from 1964 to 1969 and even released two albums and a handful of singles. One of those tunes – Isaac Hayes’ “You’ve Got Me Humming” – managed to make its way to the Billboard charts.
